Vintage black painted wood frame, light gray mat

Provenance: From Mattapan, MA estate.

Condition: Good antique condition, even tone throughout.

French painter and etcher, Pierre Emile Berthelemy was among France's most revered marine artists of the nineteenth century. He studied at the Ecole des Beaux Arts in Paris and first exhibited at the Paris Salon in 1846, where he continued to show frequently until his death in 1890. Berthelemy's etchings and paintings are included in important permanent collections around the world. Editions of the present etching are included in the Britsh Museum and the National Gallery of Australia, among others.
